Ephesians 1:13-14

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

Quieten your heart and mind. Turn off all distractions and close your eyes. Put away anxiousness and listen. Bring your heart and mind into stillness before God.  Set aside your agenda and opinions and reflect on God’s Words.

“sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee…”  Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to ensure we will endure in the faith He has called us to until the day, we join Him in Heaven. This is His promise. This is His work that He who began a good work in you will perfect it unto the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). We make commitments and promises. How seriously do we take them? I once knew a businessman who made a promise, but when he failed to honor that promise, his response was, “things change.” Is this how we justify our breaking covenants, vows, and promises? “Things change.”  Things always change. Life is filled with changes. But that is why covenants and vows are so important – in spite of potential changes, in spite of change, I will keep my word….Are there commitments you’ve made to God, to the church, that you’ve failed to keep, because, well, things changed? Maybe things just aren’t convenient any longer. Maybe you were confronted with obstacles. Maybe you just changed your mind.  How have you resolved these things with your Heavenly Father, and with your brothers and sisters in Christ?

God of perfection, holiness, and righteousness, we stand before you as sinners. Forgiven our sin. Forgive us when we take lightly a promise made, and then shrug when we fail to keep our word – to You, and to those around us.

Rid the Church – Your Bride of spiritual leaders who violate their vows, shrug, and say, “things change.” Convict their hearts of broken vows and promises. Give them courage Father to step out of the role in which they made such vows, and to follow their conscience if conscience is the reason for broken vows. Give us leaders Father, who are faithful to Your Truth, to their vows, and to their conscience.  Have mercy on me, and give me not what I deserve, but what leads me to righteousness and salvation through Your Son, Jesus, my Savior. May He be the Lord of all of my heart, mind, and will.
