Trust with all your heart

Who do you trust? Who do you trust with your money? Your life? The list is probably small.

Yesterday we began a new series on the wisdom literature found in Proverbs. Pastor Brad preached from today’s text.  Let’s focus briefly on a couple of works in verse 5 – trust, and, “with all your heart.”

Proverbs 3:5-6  ESV

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Reflection

Do you trust the Lord? How’s your trust when you pray for healing that doesn’t come? What about a job, that you didn’t get? How about a child that is far from the Lord? Do you trust Him when He answers prayers with “no”? Do you trust Him in the midst of tragedy? Our nation’s motto is “In God we trust.” I doubt it was as true as we’d like to think 200 years ago, and it's more aspirational than reality. Now the REALLY tough part – “with all your heart.” We can say we trust God, but living it – with all our hearts is a different matter. ALL my heart. The heart implies the very core of our being – the very basis of what we are. TRUST with ALL my HEART.  If you aren’t challenged and convicted, you’re asleep. To live this requires the testing of pain and sorrow.  It’s real when your soul is laid bare and you can cry out, “It is well with my soul!” No one prays for those circumstances, but when they come, how sweet it is to pour out in praise and gratitude, “I trust in You.”

Prayer

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But His smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey

Oh, Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet
Or we'll walk by His side in the way
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

Oh, Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

And 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His Word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord"

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more

Lord oh, for grace to trust You more
