Human responsibility and a sovereign God. A big topic for a Monday! We can’t dive into the full complexity of the subject in a devotional. But in yesterday’s sermon, Pastor Brad preached with Proverbs 21:31. This verse is an excellent reminder of how we have a responsibility to act, but ultimately, it is God that ensures His victory.

Proverbs 21:31 ESV

The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Two thoughts for today:

Are you ready? Paul writes in Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”   Reading a daily devotional isn’t sufficient. Do you read the Bible, or do you read about the Bible? Being ready for the spiritual battles of this life – resisting temptation and growing in sanctification, requires preparation. Knowing God’s word – not just “about” His word is necessary to be transformed.

Be ready, but have confidence. The victory is the Lord’s. He HAS won the battle for your soul! At Calvary, Jesus gave His life so that you may have eternal life. Jesus rose from the dead – conquering the curse of sin. Your salvation is Christ’s victory.

Dear Jesus, thank you for obedience to the Father, even in humiliation, torture, and death. All, so that the Father will be glorified through these acts of love – for our salvation. Give us a love of your Word. Give us a hunger and a realization of our need for the renewal of our mind – from a mind of sin and death to one of holiness and life. Thank you that we are the beneficiaries of your victory. Amen.
