This week we begin a new series, Dream Big. We hope to start a conversation about how to build a multicultural church. Our conversation is inspired by and rooted in the notion that God has a dream for his world, that though his creation has been marred by our sin, even now God is working to restore goodness and peace to every part of what God has made.
Read about the vision that Jesus Christ gave to his disciple John, who wrote it down in a book called Revelation.
9 After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.
10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
What do you notice?
Notice that there are so many people gathered around the throne of Jesus in heaven that there are too many to count.
Notice that they come from every nation and tribe and people and language. Why is this significant?
Notice that they wear white, signifying purity, and they wave palm branches, signifying victory.
This may seem to us like a fantasy, yet we know God’s dream is as real as any reality that exists. Where do you see glimpses of this future breaking in to our world even now?
Holy God, we look forward to the day when all of your children will be gathered around the Lord’s throne, celebrating the salvation that you give us, enjoying one another’s company, and praising you for all eternity. May it be on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
