We are taking a break from Wesleyan this week. Makayla, our Student Ministries Director, will be writing our ROOTED devotions this week. Enjoy!
The power of thanksgiving
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing.”
Five little words that by themselves are easy to digest and do. Rejoice: Yes! Pray: Absolutely! However, the problem begins when five little words come together to create a commandment and one that brings immense intrusion into everyday life. Merging anything on top of the never-ending lists and schedules seems out of the question, let alone something we must constantly uphold and practice. What is not out of the question is the Lord’s unchanging characteristics of love, mercy, jealousness, and zeal for our lives that emulate our limitations of what we think we can do. When we place ourselves in a stance of constant prayer, thanksgiving, surrender, and rejoicing, we also place ourselves in a posture of freedom.
Father, I thank you today for the good and the bad, the difficult and the smooth, and the unsteadiness amongst your steadfastness. I cling to you today, father, and I give you praise no matter the rotation of feelings throughout my day. I commit to you my voice and heart so that I can rejoice in Your beautiful name and grow closer to your perfect presence. In your Heavenly name, Amen.
