This week we continue in our series, REVIVAL. We began last week with the notion of promise and prayer: the promise of Jesus to send the Spirit, and our commitment to pray, with both repentance and expectation.
Now, in Acts 2, we see the fruit of what God can do. This is the story of Pentecost.
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
The Spirit’s power is mysterious. It comes from heaven, blowing like a wind. Where is it going? We don’t know!
The Spirit’s power is contagious. It fills the whole room where they were sitting. It spreads from person to person, with fire resting on each of their heads.
The Spirit’s power is enabling. It gives them abilities they never had before. To speak. To understand.
When have you experienced the mysterious, contagious, enabling power of the Spirit?
Mighty Wind of God, blow again into the world and into our lives, as on the day of Pentecost. Forgive us when we try to control you, but instead let us follow your lead and be open to the blessings that only you can give by your power. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
