Recall that in chapter two of First Peter, the author commands God’s people “like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
Consider what it means to offer spiritual sacrifices to God through Christ.
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
What do your spiritual sacrifices to God look like?
How does the fruit of your lips profess his name?
How are you offering your body as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God?
In what sense are you being transformed by the renewing of your mind?
God of new life, as I face the conflict and evil of this world, let me be transformed into the image of your Son, Jesus Christ, so that when people look at me, they will see him. Through Christ the Lord I pray. Amen.
