1 in 10

There’s a saying in churches that 10% of the members do 90% of the work, yet Timberlake is a church of steadfast and faithful volunteers. It really depends on a person’s view of a church.

Luke 17:11-19  ESV

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance  and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”  And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

What is Timberlake for you? A social gathering to see friends? A place of activity to stay busy in life? A place of worship and service? A place to have your emotional and spiritual needs met? Our text today gives us an example of gratitude in action. True gratitude to Jesus for what He had done led this one person to shout in praise and fall on his knees in front of Jesus. Of course, not many of us can testify to miraculous healing. But we can and should testify to daily grace and mercy. How do we express that gratitude? One way is through acts of service in your local church. To do for others what Christ has done for you – to show the love of Jesus to the world. Is Timberlake a place to only receive, or do you volunteer and give of yourself as well? If you are not involved in volunteer work, consider being a part of one of the incredible ministries here at Timberlake.

Father, thank you for giving your son Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins. Forgive us when we fail to show your love to others. Help us to be givers as well as takers of the blessings of Timberlake. You have given each of us gifts and abilities. Help us to recognize exactly what and where you would have us serve.  Amen.
