Trust in the Lord

LORD.  Why is it in all caps? When the word lord is in all caps in the English Bible, ‘LORD’ represents the Hebrew word ‘yeh-ho-vaw'; the “self-existent one.” It represents when God tells Moses – “I am that I AM,” which means He stands alone, without being named by another. He is the self-existent, eternal God. He is THE sovereign, omnipotent God.

Proverbs 3:5-6  ESV

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Reflection

This should be easy, right? Trusting in God – the One who holds all creation in His hands? The Creator God who spoke all things into existence? The Father God that gave His only begotten Son to die so that those that believe will be saved? The God that IS love? The God that does all things well? The God of steadfast love?  Yet, why is it so hard? Sin. The sin of arrogance. The sin of covetousness. The sin of us wanting to be god.  As the self-help programs say, “admitting there is a problem is the first step.” Take that first step. Again. Trust in the LORD with ALL your heart.

Prayer

Father, nothing we say will surprise you. You know our thoughts before we think them. You know our hearts better than we know ourselves. We confess we are frail and like Paul, the ‘chief among sinners.”

Thank you for your forgiveness. We praise you as the God of All, who chooses to love us by offering your Son to take our punishment for sin. Help us to trust you as we should. In the strong name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
