As we look at spiritual warfare this week, our preparation for withstanding Satan’s schemes and attacks is important. Yesterday we looked at Proverbs 21:31 and how we are to “be ready” – to be prepared. Today, we go a step further in considering our responsibility to know and understand God’s word. In Ephesians 6:14, we are told to put on the “belt of truth”, but what is that?
Ephesians 6:14 ESV
“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness”
In our current society and culture, we hear phrases such as “your truth” and “their truth”. There is one God, and He is the God of truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) And Satan is the “father of lies.” (John 8:44) Central to being prepared to fight against Satan’s attacks is knowing who you are in Christ, and what Christ has done for you and in you. The truth of your standing before God, in Christ, and all that it represents is what girds you up in times of attack. Do you know that nothing can remove you from God’s hand of protection? (John 10:28-30) Doubt is one of Satan’s most effective weapons. That is why we must be wrapped by the belt of truth as the first piece of armor.
Father, remind me that I am Your child when Satan tempts me to despair. Show me in your Word, and by your Spirit that nothing can separate me from You. Forgive me when I resist You and thank you for your love and protection. I am your child, and the battle and victory are Yours.
